Just thought I'd let everyone know that my town has passed a law outlawing skatebaording, biking, and blading on city sidewalks, which happens to be oh by the way every freaking where! The police of this fine town are having a contest to see who can confiscate the most boards in a week, and anyone who is seen on one of these aforementioned items, can and will be arrested and/or detained

I always rode my bike on the sidewalks, until the cop caught me on Main Street (downtown.) I told the copper, I wouldn't do it again. He let me go.

In my youth, they did say anything about doing any of those 3 things, but we were not idiots either. Now they think they own the side walk and to hell with the people walking.

In the building where I used to rent space for my business (20,000 sq.ft. bldg with 8 businesses), there was a Handicap ramp with a railing to provide access for wheelchairs into the building. I live in a town which has a PUBLIC park with a skateboard bowl built for the kids to use. However, they prefer to come into the business district and ride the railing and ramps provided for handicapped access. A kid fell off his skateboard while up on the railing, broke his arm, clavicle and smashed his ear so bad he suffered permanent hearing loss. His family sued the building owner who was a 70 year old man and the building was his retirement income. He of corse lost the suit, had to sell the building in order to make a portion of the restitution. All eight businesses were forced to relocate, 2 of which I know never opened up again. All because a group of thirteen year olds didn't want to walk the extra 1/4 mile to the park. Our town now has laws against such skateboarders as well.

It's been going on forever, Town officials are gonna make laws when people complain about something that shouldn't be happening, such as the above, because of safety issues, and teenagers are gonna do what they want...I did it, you probably did it, and your kids will do it...it's just the way things are gonna happen and the world will be no better or worse in the long run..Some kids do have common sense or good upbringing, but when you were a teenager, did that really matter alot of times?? It's just part of bein a kid to hear the old fogies bitch to a lot of them, and if the city can get a few bucks out of them to make up for all the money wasted to make the law.....sighhhhhhhh....round and round and round

Crack kills.

I never wore those kind of clothes when I was that age. As a matter of fact , if I had kids of my own , I would never let them wear those kind of clothes that indecently exposes them. Honestly I dont care what the others are wearing , if they would disobey me , I would ship them off to a private school where fashion isnt a problem because everyone has the same outfit

And that stands final.

Now for the skateboarding. Yes and No. Dont take away something that they enjoy , but take some of the misguided tax dollars that are spent on crappy uses and build a skate park for the teenagers so they can hang out together and keep away from the destruction of property.

Skateboarding is not a crime , however destruction of personal property is , and I would dislike skateboarders in a hurry if a group of them damaged part of a building that I could possibly own.
